Paramount

Paramount Plaza at 1633 Broadway features a Privately Owned Public Space in the Theater District, on the block between West 50th and 51st Streets just north of the heart of Times Square. Formerly known as the Uris Building, the 48-story tower includes a street-level sunken plaza that provides public seating at one of Midtown's largest office buildings.

The building takes its name from the Paramount Group, the real estate company that owns it, and is not related to the Paramount media conglomerate (whose New York home is One Astor Plaza a few blocks south). The tower is notable for housing two Broadway theaters: the Gershwin Theatre, one of the largest houses on Broadway, and the Circle in the Square Theatre below it. The surrounding blocks form part of the Theater District, with playhouses, studios, and entertainment offices nearby.

Broadway in the upper 50s transitions from the entertainment spectacle of Times Square to the more residential character of the Upper West Side. The POPS at 1633 Broadway sits at this transition point, serving both commercial and residential populations.

A short walk north along Broadway leads to Columbus Circle, one of Manhattan's most significant intersections, where Central Park, the Upper West Side, and Midtown converge. The plaza benefits from the steady foot traffic of a district that draws theatergoers, office workers, and tourists in large numbers.
