Riverside Park's southern Cherry Walk section provides a waterfront promenade along the Hudson River between the 72nd Street entrance and the 100th Street areas, with flowering trees, gardens, and recreational facilities stretching along the shoreline.
The 79th Street section includes the iconic Boat Basin Cafe, an Eleanor Roosevelt memorial, a skatepark, basketball courts, and one of the most actively used sections of the Hudson River Greenway cycling and running path.
Riverside Park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted in 1875 and substantially expanded by Robert Moses in the 1930s, when the parkway and waterfront sections were added. The park stretches four miles from 72nd Street to 158th Street along the Hudson.
The Hudson River Greenway, which runs through Riverside Park, is the most heavily used bikeway in the United States, carrying over 10,000 cyclists daily during peak season. The path provides continuous waterfront access from Battery Park to the George Washington Bridge.
Riverside Park's southern section provides the most accessible waterfront recreation on the Upper West Side, connecting one of Manhattan's most beloved residential neighborhoods to the Hudson River through Olmsted's original vision and Moses' Depression-era expansion.
